Wednesday, October 5th

We have just had a delightful day in our classroom. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up for a conference on volunteerspot. If you have not done so yet, you can find the link on yesterdays blog, or on your e-mail.

Reading: This week we have been focusing on monitoring our comprehension. Students are learning how important it is to think while you read. In order to help us tap into those inner voices today we made "thinking caps" and, believe it or not, they actually worked :)! After we made the thinking caps, we practiced using them while we read Frog and Toad Are Friends. As we read we recorded our inner thoughts on chart paper. I have to say the students are getting pretty good at listening to their inner voices while they read!

Check out our thinking caps!

In our phonics study we made "sh" and "th" words out of playdoh. Check it out!

Math: Today we got to play a bunch of really neat subtraction games. One of the games we played was a partner match game. Each student was given a subtraction number sentence. Without talking the student had to find the person in the class that had a different subtraction sentence with a matching answer (ex: 6-5; 8-7)We are continuing to go over all the different ways to solve a subtraction problem. We will be taking the subtraction test next week so make sure you are going over those facts.

Science: We are currently learning about amphibians, with a focus on frogs and toads. Today in science we read about frogs and toads while using our thinking caps. We have decided that frogs and toads are pretty interesting animals!

Reminders:
**Fall Break is next Thursday and Friday!
